Franks: ‘I Am Very Proud of My Country’

Retired general Tommy Franks, former leader of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, has released a statement on the news of Osama bin Laden’s death:

For America’s Patriots and our friends:

Today is a great day — for our country, for those who lost loved ones on 9-11-01, for those who have lost loved ones in the Global War on Terror, for our troopers, for humanity.  I am very proud of my country, and indebted to those who serve selflessly to protect America and our freedoms. Bin Laden is dead.

As we close out the first chapter of a long book on terror, we should celebrate the words, “as long as it takes.”  We should pause to remember those we have lost, and we should rededicate ourselves to the value and strength of “one Nation under God.”

God Bless America!
