Franchise Wars

John Fund’s latest on voter fraud. Maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention, since listening to politicians is such an embarrassing ordeal, but why haven’t Republican candidates been pushing the ballot-integrity issue? Fund cites a poll in which respondents supported having voters show ID by 80-7, across all groups, and really, how hard is it to make the case that people didn’t struggle for the franchise just to see it cheapened by fraud? It’s only Democratic Party activists who oppose ballot integrity, flinging bogus claims of racism, because, to expand on something David Frum wrote in Comeback, “Democrats, by contrast, have historically tended to attract those who felt themselves in some way marginal to the American experience” — including the dead!
