Fair Enough

Derb – Obviously, I don’t go as far as you. I like elites, just not most of the current one. But, I think you make a fine case. And, if I’ve lead you or others to think that I reject poplusim in all its forms at all times, then I’ve communicated my views poorly. I’m a believer in the merits of small doses of populism — enough to innoculate but not infect, for want of some other, better, cliché. But, it should be noted that populist movements, when successful, are just as capable of creating their own forms of political correctness. And, in some cases, that political correctness is enforced in ways well outside decent norms and is fairly indistinguishable from mob-bullying, or worse. Recall our past conversations around here about inactivism and the like. Populism is a manifestation of “I want it yesterday!” enthusiasm. As a conservative, enthusiasm of that sort always makes me nervous. I could go on and on. But it’s a very pretty day outside.
