The issue under debate on Fox a moment ago was: “Will O’Connor’s departure affect women’s rights?”
Fox, at least, I would expect to understand — and perhaps even to explain to viewers — that while women in America are entitled to rights – indeed to equal rights — the idea of “women’s rights” or “gay rights” is as foreign to the U.S. Constitution as would be “White rights” or “Christian rights” or “beer drinkers’ rights.”
In America, under our Constitution, rights inhere in individuals — not in groups. Let’s hope the next Supreme Court justice knows that.
