Eric Holder and Fast and Furious

CBS says it has documents indicating that Attorney General Eric Holder was sent memos about the controversial Fast and Furious program as early as July of 2010. In May of this year, he claimed not to have heard of it until the “last few weeks.” In the brief report that just aired on the CBS Evening News, the network also showed correspondence between Justice Department officials that explicitly discussed the fact that guns were being allowed to “walk.”

According to the CBS anchor, the department’s response was that (A) Holder misunderstood the question he was asked, and meant merely that he didn’t know the full details about Fast and Furious until recently; and (B) the two officials were discussing a case that had unfolded before Holder was at Justice.

I hope to report more when the documents themselves become publicly available.
