Distracted

Funny, how the game works: The media make a distraction (such as they did yesterday, with Bristol Palin). And then they say — with the appearance of disinterestedness — “Gee, the Republicans are suffering from a distraction at this convention. They didn’t need this.”

Reminds me of a lot of things — including this: A golf announcer will say, “Joe Smith is quietly moving up the leaderboard.” The reason he’s “quietly” moving up the leaderboard is that you haven’t covered him!
