The Corner

Dim

I’ve been buying those flourescent bulbs — you know, the fancy-shmancy ones that are supposed to save the planet. I haven’t done it because I’m worried about my carbon footprint. Instead, I assumed that a little extra money at the cash register now would reduce my electricy bill in the long run. In other words, this is all about money-saving self-interest. But the dumb things keep blinking out. They don’t last 10,000 hours, as advertised. I’m lucky to get a few of them to last 10 hours. Today, the NYT has a story on the crummy flourescent bulb epidemic.
