The Corner

For Detroit Sports Fans

The Miller family went to see the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Washington Capitals at the MCI Center last night. As always, there were a lot of Red Wings fans on hand, and we could often be heard chanting “Let’s Go Red Wings!” Nothing remarkable about that. Later, though, my wife told me she heard a bunch of Detroit fans chanting something else to the same beat: “Fire Millen!” You know you’re in trouble when fans in a different city attending a game in a different sport chant for your ouster. (Memo to people who aren’t Detroit sports fans: Matt Millen is general manager of the sad-sack Detroit Lions.)
