Democratic Contenders Come Out for Reparations; Let the Bidding Begin

In an effort at pandering to part of the Democratic base, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren have come out in favor of reparations for slavery. It’s an absurd idea and illegal to boot, as lawyer Hans Bader shows in this Liberty Unyielding post.

But now that those two have said they’d use the White House to push for slavery reparations, how can any of the rest say no? Anyone want to be an opponent of this woke idea in Democratic primaries where most of the voters are rabid leftists? More likely, the reparations calls will expand. Don’t Cherokee descendants deserve their reparations? And many if not all other Indian tribes? At one time the government did bad things to Japanese and Chinese. Shouldn’t they get something?

If, during a Democratic debate, someone asks why those and/or some other groups shouldn’t receive reparations for past injustices, I think it will be very hard for any candidate to say that they’re not deserving.

It will be fun to watch this craziness play out.
