The Corner

In Defense of Plato Ii

Here’s a shorter one:

Jonah,

The Noble lie, as distorted by the left, is a lie. Plato’s

Seventh Letter said it best — “you don’t write down the highest

things” — Plato had seen Socrates executed by the Athenian state,

and he knew what the Leviathan was capable of if inflamed — Plato

wrote knowing that straightforward condemnation would get him killed.

If you want to read the greatest piece of Political Philosophy on this

Topic, then you simply must read the great elder statesman of Political

Philosophy, James Schall, SJ of Georgetown and his wonderful tribute

To Eric Voegelin called, appropriately, The Death of Plato.
