The Dean’s Premature Trendline

Broder writes that “Massachusetts  “was the first [state] in the nation to permit same-sex marriage.”  Seems a tad misleading in two ways.  First, Broder hides the fact that the state’s supreme court imposed same-sex marriage on the populace.  Then, he makes it seem as though Massachusetts inaugurated some grand trend.  It would be more accurate to say that Massachusetts is, so far, the only state in the nation whose judges have invented a full-fledged state constitutional right to same-sex marriage.
