The Corner

A Curious Headline

Five days ago, the Washington Post ran an article headed “Can Rand Paul save the Republican Party?” (Paul is a darling of the Democratic press, for obvious reasons. For one thing, the press and Paul have basically the same position on national defense. Paul is probably to the left of them on Dick Cheney, though. How many in the press assert that Cheney advocated war in order to benefit the corporation that once employed him?)

Republicans have a majority of the state legislatures. A majority of the governorships. A majority of the U.S. House. And now a majority of the U.S. Senate. True, we don’t have the presidency, and that is the big enchilada. (I say “we” because I’m a Republican.) But everything else that can be had, we have.

“Can Rand Paul save the Republican Party?” From what, exactly? Conservatism?
