Senator Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) said Sunday that the actions of Egypt’s military will cause the United States to cut off assistance to the Middle Eastern nation.
“Look, I think the actions of the last week are going to cause us to suspend aid,” Corker said on ABC’s This Week.
However, Corker told host George Stephanopoulos that “most of the aid has already gone out the door this year” and that the United States is going to have a debate this fall about future aid.
Corker clarified that he was expecting a suspension followed by a “recalibration,” arguing that “there are certain things that obviously should not flow [to Egypt, but] there are certain things that are in our national interest that continue to need to flow.”
