Cliché Watch

An immigration lawyer specializing in asylum (i.e., devising ever-more inventive ways of keeping illegal aliens from being deported) criticizes me for questioning how we run refugee resettlement in the wake of the arrest of two Iraqi refugees who turn out to have been bomb-planting insurgents:

As a nation, we are a world leader in many areas, including the humanitarian area.  We have greatly benefited from our leadership role, and from the many refugees, asylees, and immigrants who have made our country their new home.  We should not give up our leadership or the benefits that accrue to us because we fear terrorism.  We should not let the terrorists win.

Really, he wrote that. So, if I understand this correctly, keeping terrorists out of the United States would mean the terrorists would win. Well, in that case, I wish them total victory!
