Clark–Serious and Substantive

Wesley Clark has a serious and substantive op-ed on Iraq in the New York Times today. That’s not the sort of the thing you expect from a former Democratic presidential candidate, but it is the kind of thing you expect from a Fox News military analyst, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. I think he exaggerates the extent to which Iran is gaining from our intervention in Iraq and I would have quibbles with various points, but on a lot of stuff he’s right: we need to do more on the borders; we need to try to get the militias under control; we need to engage elements of the insurgency; we need to lean more heavily on Assad; we need to foster an inclusive political process.
