The Corner

Chez What?

Earlier today, I had a Corner posting on restaurant names, sparked by an item in Impromptus. A reader mentioned a restaurant in Cincinnati called “Seny” — Catalan for “common sense,” and pronounced without that “y.” The restaurant went out of business. Comes now another reader letter:

Mr. Nordlinger,

I know the restaurant discussed [Seny], dined there, was sorry to see it close. I, too, was corrected on the telephone. And I myself am the proprietor of a restaurant just across the Ohio River in Covington, Ky. It’s called Chez Nora. We gave up long ago.

And let us not forget that Kentucky is home to the town called Ver-sales.
