The news that Eric Cantor lost is (and lost big!), by inside-the-Beltway standards, huge. No one in Washington expected this to happen. The only question was how embarrassing Cantor’s margin of victory would be. No doubt we’ll learn new things in the days ahead. But one thing seems absolutely obvious right now: Comprehensive immigration reform is so dead that doorknobs look vivacious by comparison.
