California Leads the Way in Undermining Freedom of Speech

The point of the First Amendment was to take speech out of the realm of politics. But progressives don’t think anything should be beyond politics. Consider the newly enacted California statutes that put political speech in the sights of government officials, who’d have free rein to sue anyone for speech, including satire, they didn’t like.

Will these Orwellian laws survive? They have been challenged in court, as we read in this release by Alliance Defending Freedom. The news-satire website Babylon Bee is the plaintiff. If the laws stand, the Bee will likely be one of the first defendants. The humorless and intolerant leftists who control California would like nothing better than to ruin the site.

This is a cautionary tale of what would happen if progressives get the chance to load up the judiciary with their brand of ideological judges.
