Biden’s Equity Mandate for AI

I’ve written before about how progressive biases are being encoded into new artificial-intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT. Now, the Biden administration, consistent with its broader “equity agenda,” is putting the pedal to the metal:

The clause in question — part of the new executive order’s “Embedding Equity into Government-wide Processes” section — is yet another example of how powerful private actors and government officials are working in tandem to advance DEI ideology across American institutions. But it takes on a new danger as AI, with its enormously powerful implications, enters the fold. Progressive efforts to consolidate control over the way Americans process and receive information will only be magnified by these new technologies. And “equity,” which involves a rejection of basic constitutional principles, imports an ideological justification for that project.

In this latest executive order, Biden touts his efforts to embed “a focus on equity into the fabric of Federal policymaking and service delivery” as an attempt to “transform” the federal government. It “continues to be the policy of my Administration,” he writes, “to advance an ambitious, whole-of-government approach to racial equity and support for underserved communities and to continuously embed equity into all aspects of Federal decision-making.” We should believe him.
