Bee Movie

Just for the record, I saw it last weekend with wife and child (both my own). I thought it had some very funny moments, and I enjoyed it over all. But as a parent, my main critique is that it’s really not a great kid movie. Way too much of the humor buzzed right over the head of  my daughter and, I would suspect, over the heads of almost any pre-teen. That would be fine if there was more of the broad silly stuff to entertain the wee masses. The only reason I go to animated movies (at least until that Beowulf movie comes out) is to show my kid a good time. If I had time to go to the movies for my own entertainment, I would have seen few of the animated movies in recent years (though my wife and I went to see the Incredibles sans progeny). Hollywood in general, and Pixar in particular, have really gotten good at making “fun for the whole family” movies. But the trick is to err on the side of the kids having fun, because so long as they really like it and there’s nothing deeply offensive, the parents  will generally be happy. It doesn’t really work the other way around as much.
