The Corner

Baseball, Hot Dogs…

The Tigers just beat the Yankees–woo hoo!–so I’m in no mood to complain about anything. Still, a Chevy truck commercial early in the game teed me off the way Carlos Guillen teed off Mike Mussina in the sixth. The background music is a song called “Our Country” by the artist formerly known as Johnny Cougar. So it’s supposed to have a patriotic vibe. The images? The peace symbol, Vietnam War protestors, Nixon flashing the victory sign as he gets on the helicopter, and Katrina flooding. Doesn’t exactly inspire me to “buy American.” I liked it so much better when the ditty was “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.”
