‘A Once-Unimaginable Arrangement’

As you may have heard, Starwood Hotels and Resorts is now in business with the Cuban military. Read it from the Associated Press:

Starwood signed a deal on Saturday to renovate and run three Cuban hotels, returning U.S. chains to the island more than 50 years after American hotels were taken over by Fidel Castro’s socialist revolution.

All Cuban hotels are state-owned so the deal puts a major U.S. corporation directly in business with the Communist government under a special U.S. license that pushes Washington’s legal dismantling of the Cuban trade embargo further than ever before. In a once-unimaginable arrangement, a hotel owned by the tourism arm of the Cuban military will become a Sheraton Four Points.

The deal comes on the eve of President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Cuba …

Yes, a lot of things that were once unimaginable have become reality under this president. For the Left, it is cause for celebration. For others of us, it is cause for dismay and revulsion.

I’m not much of a boycotter — but the thought of sleeping in a Sheraton Four Points bed, as I did only a couple of weeks ago, gives me the creeps.

WFB enjoyed quoting Willi Schlamm: “The trouble with socialism is socialism. The trouble with capitalism is capitalists.” I don’t know whether the Starwood people qualify as capitalists, as I think of capitalists. Colluders?
