I was just on a Texas radio station opposite a representative of the National Council of La Raza, who took issue with the contention that the U.S.-born children of immigrants should speak English. The La Raza guy said workplaces in the U.S. are the ones that have to adapt because, after all, the settlers 400 years ago didn’t have to learn Powhatan or Wampanoag. It’s not that I haven’t heard that kind of thing before, but La Raza is usually more sophisticated in its public relations, successfully masking its true colors. It was refreshing to hear one of their spokesmen saying what the group actually believes instead of peddling the talking points their focus-group data tell them are most palatable to the rubes they’re trying to dupe.
