AAUP Hit Again

Over at Minding the Campus, Erin O’Connor has posted an excellent and detailed critique of the AAUP’s (American Association of University Professors) recent “Freedom in the Classroom” statement. (The AAUP statement attempts to defend professors against charges of classroom indoctrination.) O’Connor’s piece can now be added to Peter Wood’s stunning takedown of the AAUP report. These critiques, and above all this formal point-by-point rebuttal of the AAUP report by Peter Wood and Stephen Balch of the National Association of Scholars, would seem to place the ball back in the AAUP’s court. Does the AAUP have a serious response to these criticisms?
