Nearly 20,000 West Virginians will have to re-enroll in the federal Obamacare exchange because the system is having problems transferring users’ information to and from the state’s system. The Charleston Gazette reports that HealthCare.gov was supposed to automatically pass along the applications of 18,000 residents, but instead sent only “flat files” with little information.
The director of West Virginians for Affordable Health Care told the Gazette that he hoped the “computer glitch” would not lead to coverage gaps for those that are affected, but the state says anyone who wants to receive coverage needs to sign up again. Meanwhile, an official in West Virginia’s Department of Health and Human Resources warned that while the problem affected many of the state’s enrollees, “this really is a national problem.”
