The 2024 Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago, where Vice President Kamala Harris will formally accept her party’s presidential nomination, just weeks after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her to succeed him. Forcing Joe Biden to stay up this late to give his big farewell speech is elder abuse.

Warnock does his level best to sell Kamala Harris’s awkwardly limp campaign slogan “Forward!”

It’s 11 p.m. Eastern. Do you know where your president is? Probably stewing in a green room somewhere in the United Center.

As I write this, Senator Warnock is still speaking. The remaining speakers scheduled before President Biden are:

  • U.S. Sen. Chris Coons
  • Remarks: First Lady Jill Biden
  • Performance: James Taylor
  • Ashley Biden
Dan McLaughlin

Warnock says America should “give every child a chance,” at a convention giddily celebrating eliminating as many children as possible.

“Donald Trump is a plague on the American conscience. He is a clear and present threat to the precious covenant we share with one another.” – Senator Raphael Warnock.

Ralph Warnock – former pastor of MLK’s church – is unsurprisingly the best speaker of the night by far in terms of his cadence, tone, and rhetoric. Set aside that his speech is full of misrepresentations; he is an extremely gifted orator. Republicans will require a good cycle to dislodge him.

Jim Geraghty

I love how Georgia Democratic senator Raphael Warnock, a Baptist pastor, gets to describe voting as a form of prayer that we all engage in together, and everyone who is usually screaming about the importance of the separation of church and state, and warning about impending theocracy, shrugs and says, “eh, that’s cool.”

Noah Rothman

The thing is, if pushing Joe off into the dead of night goes poorly for him, more Americans will see it than they would have if he spoke in primetime.

Jim Geraghty

It’s the Democratic National Convention, close to 11 p.m. Eastern, governor Beshear. Wear a tie.

Noah Rothman

I’m sure Joe Biden, who barely hid his resentment over being forced out of the race, is mad that he’s being forced to address the country after the East Coast has already gone to bed. But not madder than Jill.
