The 2024 Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago, where Vice President Kamala Harris will formally accept her party’s presidential nomination, just weeks after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her to succeed him. I had forgotten that Trump invited white supremacist Nick Fuentes to Mar-a-Lago until Chuck Schumer reminded me about it. A clean hit. Boy was that ever an unforced error.

Schumer sounds like a Simpsons Troy McClure-style narrator when he intones “or we can relive the dark night of American carnage.”

I did not expect Anna Navarro to deploy an anti-communist metaphor in attacking Trump, in which she called out the illiberal behavior of a variety of socialist despots in Latin America by name. The metaphor may be strained, but Democrats can bank that admittedly perfunctory and opportunistic, but nonetheless condemnatory, nod in the direction of anti-communism.

Somehow night 2 of the Democratic Convention is shaping up to be even more soporific than night 1. I am now sitting through a video tribute to Kamala Harris’s tiebreaking votes in the Senate as Vice-President.

Political commentator Ana Navarro is one of the convention’s “celebrity” hosts, and she opens by talking about how Kamala Harris loves pets, and how Donald Trump “hangs around people shooting dogs,” referring, of course, Kristi Noem. There’s always some idiot Republican lawmaker who makes the Democrats’ jobs easier.

Credit where it’s due, Navarro rips into Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro… but then she promptly compares him to Donald Trump.

And now, everyone in the arena in Chicago watches Kamala Harris speaking live, just up the coast of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. Ironically, Harris is holding a concurrent rally in the Fiserv Forum, where Republicans held their convention last month.

Kamala Harris is in Wisconsin tonight — already doing better than Hillary.

Gavin Newsom, while praising his state of California/Pelosi, looks even more like a used Mercedes salesman than usual.

Jim Geraghty

“My name is Gavin Newsom, from the great state of Nancy Pelosi.”

Go figure, geography is not his strong suit. Newsom’s strong suit is… his actual suit.

Tony Evers then accidentally says ‘Kamala Hot….Harris’

It is inappropriate to woo the vice president, Mr. Governor.
