The 2024 Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago, where Vice President Kamala Harris will formally accept her party’s presidential nomination, just weeks after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her to succeed him. Emhoff says “Kamala has fought against antisemitism” but that is completely ridiculous. Harris has courted the most antisemitic parts of her party, even saying the Jew hating pro-Hamas protesters were “showing exactly what the human emotion should be.” She also gave them veto power over her VP pick. Under the Biden-Harris administration we’ve seen a historic spike against antisemitism. At the DNC that is nominating her, Jews have to hold events in non-disclosed locations for their own safety.

Michelle Obama and Barack are coming on next, so expect this assessment to be immediately rendered obsolete, but Doug Emhoff was the best speaker of the night so far – and did a decent job of humanizing Harris

The ovation greeting former first lady Michelle Obama turns the applause volume to a new, much higher level, far above that of any other speaker of the night.

“She’s always been there for our children, and I know she’ll always be there for yours, too.” When a typical elected official says this about his party’s nominee, I roll my eyes. But I cut the nominee’s spouse some slack. Doug Emhoff has, by some measures, one of the easier assignments of the night — no need for talking politics or policies, just tell some stories that show the human side of his wife. (“Tell the world why your wife is so great” is, for many husbands, an exceptionally easy assignment.) So far, he’s doing what he set out to do.

“We all know cowards are weak, and Kamala Harris can smell weakness.” – Doug Emhoff

“Kamala has fought against antisemitism and all forms of hate her entire career.” – Doug Emhoff

Emhoff’s description of his awkward voice mail message he left for Kamala Harris after their first date is hilarious. “Heeeey… It’s Douuuuug…” Fantastic self-effacing humor.

A lot of people think Doug Emhoff’s job tonight is to humanize Kamala Harris, and give America a sense of who his wife is, away from the world of politics. Actually, his job tonight is to humanize a big-time Hollywood lawyer.

Tammy Duckworth begins by ripping Donald Trump as a “draft-dodging coward” and follows it up with a reference to “bone spurs.” You know Joe Biden is really gone from the Democratic Party’s mindset, because they’re comfortable claiming their opponent avoided service in Vietnam by citing sketchy claims of health problems and student deferments.

And here comes U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks to undermine the whole point of the video package by emphasizing not Harris’s prosecutorial acumen but her sensitivity to the plight endured by non-violent criminals. This party has no idea what it wants to convey to the American people, so it’s just rocketing all its messages at you simultaneously.
