Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida says that under President Trump, you didn’t see any Chinese spy balloons in American skies. Fact check: True, and it’s amazing that some of these absurd, ominous events under Biden are so easily forgotten.
He also says that at one point, Trump threatened Putin, “I’ll take the tops off the Kremlin.”
Either Waltz is sharing a remarkable story that Trump, and no one around the former president, has ever told before, or it’s made up.
Milwaukee — What looks to be a Palestinian popsicle outside Milwaukee’s Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. The “art display” is across the street from the authorized-protest park and just outside the RNC’s hard security perimeter.
I think we all know that Kimberly Guilfoyle is speaking, in a fairly good slot at the convention, because she’s engaged to Donald Trump Jr. But hey, I’m not saying she doesn’t have any role to play. If the Democrats give California governor Gavin Newsom a prime slot to denounce Trump at their convention in Chicago, Guilfoyle would be my first choice to respond.
Ah, Kimberly Guilfoyle. My ears haven’t stopped ringing from her last speech at the last Republican National Convention held in Washington in 2020.
Despite this “dark” period in American history, Afghan combat veteran Scott Neil told attendees, he knows America to be a “good” nation. “Were still the shining city on the hill that everybody wants to come to,” he adds. More patriotic optimism like this, please.
“Iran is richer. Russia is bigger. China is stronger,” says retired Staff Sargeant David Bellavia. Under Biden, he continued, “a record number of American embassies have been forced to evacuate,” recruitment rates have collapsed, and “confidence in the armed forces has reached a 20-year-low.” Each of these claims are true, and all of them deserve more attention than they’ve received in the press.
Milwaukee — Many North Dakota delegates seated in their state’s VIP section on the ground floor were frustrated by the convention attendees and reporters who were blocking their view of governor Doug Burgum during his speech a few minutes ago.
Way too much talk of gender at the RNC.
Kellyanne Conway confesses that she often hears voters say, “I want Trump’s policies without Trump’s personality.” Her response: “Well, good luck with that. We don’t get Trump’s policies without Trump’s personality.” I’d say that’s probably true of instincts like those that lead the former president to endorse a crushing global tariff regime, but I’m skeptical that’s true of, say, lowering the corporate tax rate or augmenting enforcement capabilities at the border.
Burgum identifies a series of specific Biden policies he claims contributes directly to rising utility bills for individuals, and he’s right about the bills. “The average U.S. electric bill over the June-through-September period is projected to be $719, a nearly 8% increase year over year and the highest average in 10 years, the report says,” <a href="https://www.utilitydive.com/news/rising-summer-cooling-costs-us-charts-energy-assistance-liheap/718010/:~:text=The%20average%20U.S.%20electric%20bill%20over%20the%20June%2Dthrough%2DSeptember,utilities%20from%20shutting%20off%20electricity.”>Utility Drive reported in June. Even if they don’t know the cause, Americans are feeling the effects.
