WWII vets are a treasure. “I would like to reenlist, today” the 98yo William Pekrul says to Trump.

Philip Klein

Amazing to hear somebody speak who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. We should cherish the WW II veterans while we still have them.

Jim Geraghty

I have given Biden a great deal of grief about his age, energy level, and speaking ability. But the convention’s current speaker, 98-year-old World War Two veteran William Pekrul, is convincing me that the United States could handle a nonagenarian, if it’s one like this guy.

Philip Klein

Sergeant William Pekrul, a 98-year old WWII veteran, is speaking now. I can’t be the only one to immediately think that he’s speaking more fluently than Joe Biden.

Jim Geraghty

It’s nice to see Lee Zeldin, former congressman and gubernatorial candidate, up on a stage without anyone attempting to stab him.

By the way, the guy who tried to stab Zeldin was sentenced to three years probation.

“This was and remains an attack on Americans,” says Ronen Neutra, the father of one of the American hostages in Hamas’s custody, of the over 30 Americans who were killed on October 7. How many troubles would Joe Biden have avoided inviting on himself if this was his go-to response to criticisms of his post-10/7 Israel policies from the far-Left?

Jeffrey Blehar

I’m really rather stunned to see such a professionally well-themed and executed Republican convention.

This sort of competence from the GOP is wildly out of character.

Jim Geraghty

As Ronen and Orna Neutra, the parents of Omer Neutra, an American-born Israeli Defense Forces soldier held hostage in Gaza, come to the stage, chants of “Bring them home!” delay their start. Much like the Americans slain in Afghanistan at the Abbey Gate, Joe Biden and his administration are just hoping Americans forget about the Hamas hostages. Biden’s best bet for November is that the electorate just forgets that there’s a world beyond our borders… well, maybe Biden doesn’t want to bring up the word “borders,” either.

Noah Rothman

Fresh off laying into Biden for minutes on end over his failure to namecheck the service members who died at Abbey Gate, the RNC brings out the family of one of the American hostages presently in the custody of Hamas – a group that Biden also rarely recognizes publicly.

Noah Rothman

Day two of the RNC leaning into philosemitism by laying the blame for pro-Hamas campus unrest at the feet of the Democratic establishment by way of the Ivy League’s faculty. The unforced error Democrats committed by trying to accommodate the campus activist set just keeps giving.
