Older crowd, J. D. Time to wrap this up. Bedtimes wait for no man, especially not a prospective vice-president.
This Vance speech has been pretty good, but if I had a minor criticism, it would be that it’s a little disjointed. Hard to discern its overall trajectory.
Elites pushing us into war in Iraq and “Wall Street barons” gutting the economy. Is this the 2004 or 2008 Democratic National Convention? I can’t tell.
The worst thing about J.D. Vance’s speech, oddly enough, is the audience – who think far too much of themselves, as strange as that is to say in the context of a convention nomination speech.
“Wall Street Barons crashed the economy,” Vance says to summarize the reason why Housing costs are high, presumably referring to the 2008 financial meltdown.
The Mamaw stories are killing it tonight.
J.D. Vance introduces his mother, who struggled with addiction when he was a child, as being clean and sober for 10 years. Based on lip reading, it appears she said “that’s my boy.”
Vance, announcing to the world, “ten years, clean and sober. I love you, Mom” is a really special moment.
Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — hmm, I wonder why J. D. Vance would mention those states? A coincidence, no doubt.
If “economic nationalism” just consisted of maximizing America’s energy resources, well then, I’d be an economic nationalist. Alas, there’s a bit more to it.
