Biden kinda found his footing about 20-25 minutes into this debate, even though he’s still meeting his baseline level of incomprehensibility. But by then, it was already too late. The impression is set and Democrats will not be saved from tomorrow’s existential freakout.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang weighs in on X: “Look I debated Joe 7 times in 2020. He’s a different guy in 2024. #swapjoeout“
I challenge the premise of Jake Tapper’s question. In what way have either the Trump or Biden administration’s made opioid deaths a priority?
Biden threatens us with a $5 trillion Trump tax cut. Which is not true – in fact, Trump’s tariff proposals potentially entail an enormous tax hike – but it is not exactly a selling point for voting Biden.
You know who’s looking really vindicated tonight? Special counsel Robert Hur.
Referencing the presidential historians’ rankings in a debate is like an athlete referencing a sportswriter’s power rankings on the playing field.
“Did you fire anybody?” A fantastic riff from Trump. True, it reminds some of us of the contrast between Apprentice Trump (who loved firing people) and actual Trump (who was very averse to that sort of confrontation). But people grasp that a lot of people should have been sacked under Biden, and weren’t. In that sense, Trump makes a perverse virtue of the revolving door of his own staff.
Pointing out that Joe Biden didn’t fire anyone for the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan was very effective.
And Joe Biden responding with “The idea!” Again, asserting that we are respected and nobody wants to mess with us, is just not going to be credible to people who think Russia, Iran, Hamas, and the Houthis are in fact testing us.
“No one thinks we’re weak”……you shouldn’t have to say that, Mr. President. It should be obvious.
“He wants our country to either be destroyed, or he wants those people as voters.” – Trump on Biden’s immigration policies.
