Biden: “everything we could…with… …”

Tapper: “Thank you, President Biden.”

Haley Strack

First big-time freeze of the night. Biden: “Look… if we finally beat Medicare…” Tapper swoops in and pivots to Trump.

Rich Lowry

”beat Medicare”?

Noah Rothman

This is painful.

Ramesh Ponnuru

At the start, it’s an old-school debate, with the Republican saying tax cuts promote growth and the Democrat saying they’re a sop to the rich. Could be 2004.

Audrey Fahlberg

Biden often keeps his mouth open when he’s not speaking, which makes him him look even older.

Dan McLaughlin

Trump is talking about “the therapeutics” that his administration developed on COVID, while trying not to mention Operation Warp Speed, which was actually one of his administration’s greatest accomplishments.

Haley Strack

Biden touts his administration’s withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Biden still has yet to personally acknowledge or say the names of the 13 service members killed in Kabul during his botched withdrawal in August 2021.

Jeffrey Blehar

Trump doesn’t exactly look young and dewy himself, but by being more modulated out of the gate, it’s a stark contrast from most people’s last impression of him. He has no difficulty answering the questions, regardless of the content of his answers.

Meanwhile Joe Biden looks like he’s falling asleep on the split-screen.

Luther Ray Abel

Biden talking about dead troops is a bold/disgraceful move. Trump should have said more about the thirteen killed in Kabul.
