Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) opposed any restrictions on abortion in a response to Senator Rand Paul (R., Ky.), who challenged her to identify a single scenario in which it should be illegal.
“I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved,” the DNC chair said to CNN. “Period. End of story.”
The statement was prompted by Paul’s response when he avoided saying what exceptions he would include in pro-life legislation.
“We always seem to have the debate way over here on what are the exact details on exceptions or when it starts,” Paul told reporters. “You go back and you ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she’s okay with killing a seven-pound baby that is just not yet born yet. Ask her when life begins, and you ask Debbie when she’s willing to protect life . . . When you get an answer from Debbie, come back to me.”
