COSEN–Bennet Campaign to Radio Hosts: Only Pre-Approved Questions, Please

850KOA’s Colorado Morning News (5am-9am) with Steffan Tubbs and April Zesbaugh managed to secure a rare interview with Sen. Michael Bennet, and despite the “suggested” questions sent by his campaign–which they posted to Facebook–the hosts managed to ask a few non-prescribed questions:

FOLKS: THIS IS HILARIOUS.  WE WILL SAY IT IS DOUBTFUL BENNET EVEN KNOWS THESE WERE SENT OUT TO US.  NONETHELESS, READ ON:

====================================

Hi,

As we discussed, attached are general topics and questions I included in Senator Bennet’s memo for the interview this morning with Steffan and April. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

XXXX

Q. In what ways are you a better choice for this seat?

Q. What do you bring to the Senate

Q. What is your greatest accomplishment?

Q. How’s life on the campaign trail?  Are you having fun?

Q. How’s the family holding up?

Q. What do you dislike the most about campaigning?

Q. This is a very important election and according to the most recent polling, you and your opponent are in a dead heat, is there anything you would like to tell our listeners with less than a week until election day?

Ken Buck’s campaign seized on the “softball” questions:

Michael Bennet gave a rare interview to a local media outlet today, 50,000-watt powerhouse 850 AM KOA.  But the Bennet camp attempted to insulate the appointed Senator from tough questions by sending a mock-up of the interview to the hosts.  Bennet suggested such toughies as “Is there anything you would like to tell our listeners?” and “What is your greatest accomplishment?”  Surprised by the set-up, KOA’s morning show posted the questions to their Facebook page.

“Michael Bennet’s Avoid Accountability at All Cost Tour 2010 tried to breeze through Denver’s largest news station today, but fortunately for listeners, KOA didn’t take the bait,” said Buck for Colorado campaign manager John Swartout.  “Bennet doesn’t like talking to normal Coloradans, and he doesn’t like answering tough questions—especially about his record.  The guy seems confused: he doesn’t work for Obama, he works for Coloradans, and he will be held accountable by them whether he likes it or not.”

As Fox News recently reported, appointed Senator Bennet rarely gives interviews.  The video report actually showed Bennet reading to a crowd from a script handed to him by staffers.

Instead of the softballs Bennet suggested, KOA’s morning show team asked Bennet tough questions about his smear campaign against Ken Buck and the federal government’s massive debt—$3 trillion of which Bennet rubberstamped.  Yet time after time, Bennet blatantly lied about his record.
