Hickenlooper Touts Cost-Cutting in ‘Cheap’ Ad

Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper is building on his “no-negative-ads” debut with an ad called “Cheap.”

Hickenlooper, the mayor of Denver, turned up the city’s thermostats in 2008 with his “warm’s the new cool” campaign:

On Thursday, Hickenlooper said thermostats would be turned up a few clicks in city buildings this summer and encouraged businesses to do the same in order to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. […]

He encouraged municipal workers to remove ties and suit jackets whenever possible and to wear short-sleeved shirts or blouses and open-collared shirts instead.

In 2007, the mayor introduced his “Greenprint Denver” five-year plan, which suggested “paper-free Fridays” as seen in the ad.
