The big story on the paper of record.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. First, in response to a number of requests, I'm going to do a big, multipart G-File over several days on "The Death of Neoconservatism" or some such. First installment will appear Friday.

2. It's finally happened. After years of nudging and cajoling from readers, I'm finally writing a book. It'll be a big book. The working title is Liberal Fascism. It's a two-part argument. In the first part, I plan to trace the authentic intellectual and political history of fascism, starting from the reality that Mussolini's fascism was conceived as an improvement upon socialism, not a departure from it. Also I'll explore the liberals' longstanding distortion of fascism's actual nature in order to delegitimize the Right. In the second — and much larger — part, my plan is to discuss how many aspects of modern Left-liberalism actually resemble aspects of authentic fascism. Hopefully, I can do all of this in an engaging and enjoyable way. Frankly, I think it will be a rip-roaring good time. The book will be published by Doubleday, a division of Random House. There's a lot more to it, but I have to keep some stuff under my belt and I have a lot to learn as well.

I tell you all of this because A) I'm very, very excited, B) I owe you guys, C) I want your help — insights, suggested reading, etc. And, a little patience. I very much want to do this book right. I know that will mean lots of work on my end. I'll be keeping my obligations to NRO (i.e., you guys). But I know, too, as Barbie said about math, that books are hard.

Finally, I will probably be looking for a researcher and/or interns to help with the book and my other commitments. I don't have all the logistics of how that will work just yet. But, obviously, a researcher would have to be smart, hard-working, knowledgeable, and open to the possibility that I would make fun of him in The Corner from time to time. If you're interested in that, keep it in mind, but hold off on sending me e-mail for now. If you can't help yourself, please send it to Gfilecorrections@aol.com with the subject header "Intern for hire" or "Researcher."
