“Greetings to National Review”
By Cecil B. De Mille
EDITOR'S NOTE: 2005 marks the fiftieth anniversary of National Review. In celebration, NRO will be digging into the NR archives throughout the year. In the first issue of National Review, the November 19, 1955, issue, the back page was devoted to supportive words as NR began its mission. Military, politicians, economists, clergy, and more were part of the mix. Here's one, from a familiar name.
For a healthy democracy, it is essential that all viewpoints be represented by strong and intelligent voices in the market place of ideas. The establishment of National Review gives promise that the conservative viewpoint will be ably represented and will make an important contribution to the clarification of issues in the public mind.
EDITOR'S AD: You can celebrate NR’s 50th on water this summer. Join NR on our 50th-anniversary cruise. Details here.
