During a segment on MSNBC this morning, one Rome correspondent noted that even though the pope said in 2010 he’d resign if he weren’t physically able to be pope, no one expected him to actually follow up on that. 

Maybe one of the important messages Pope Benedict sends to the world this month is: Words have meaning. And a man has a duty to be a man of his word.
